Lee Barringer, Celebrant

Lee Barringer started his funeral career in 1988 in Winnipeg, Manitoba with Neil Bardal Inc., where he apprenticed as a funeral director and embalmer and managed the crematorium.
Graduating from the Western School of Mortuary Practice in 1990, he moved to Victoria, B.C in 1991 and continued his career both in Victoria, and Vancouver for the next 12 years. In 2003, he and his wife Rachel returned to Winnipeg.

Lee has been involved in all aspects of funeral service, working extensively in both the family owned and corporate owned funeral homes. He has spent years focusing on embalming and restorative art skills, and provides them to Neil Bardal Inc.

In the mid nineties, Lee saw a need for Celebrant services and started to officiate services for families that request a secular or non-denominational tribute or “Celebration of Life”

Lee continues to serve families, as a Celebrant speaker, and also offers his services as a consultant in funeral service for the training of staff and company development, as well as providing continuing education to his profession.

Lee is a contributing author to funeral trade magazines.

A celebrant speaker is an alternative to having a minister or clergy person. It is often the case where a family have not had a strong church background, or perhaps feel that a religious service would not be reflective of the deceased and/or the surviving family's values and beliefs. Many times these services are called non-denominational, secular or humanist.

Though families do ask at times for a scripture passage to be read, a celebrant does not make scripture the main focal point of the service.
Lee will meet with family prior to the service, and learn more about the life of their loved one. He will then arrange stories, readings and music that will reflect their life, while honoring the emotional needs of the surviving family and friends.

A celebration of life is an important ritual that should be both personal and meaningful.
If I can help serve your family in this time of need, I will do so with dignity.

Sincerely,
Lee Barringer
