Walter extended kindness whenever he could, and in this way made his community a better place. I am touched by the example he provided. My condolences to Timothy, and June, and family in this difficult time. (in a side note, I must say he would be impressed by this on-line tribute -- he liked techy-things that serve their purpose well.)

My wife and I had the privilege of Walter marrying us almost 13 years ago. My wife, DeNelle, stills tells the story of how Walter calmed her down on our big day. Walter had that effect on everyone. We will miss you. Love the Thompsons.

Story shared: The Cowan Clan and euchre playing

Dear June and Susan, and Brad, Craig, and Tim, and Elgin and Mary and everyone in the Cowan Clan: The last time I saw Walter and June, it was two or three summers ago when they had come east to visit Walter's family in south-western Ontario. The gathering was at his sister, Mary's place in Chatham. His brother, Elgin, was there, as were many of the extended family. As usual, farm talk was part of the conversation. And, as usual, euchre was part of the entertainment. Walter always had a small smile on his face when playing cards, and he'd give you this sort of sideways look as he slapped down the winning trump; he might even call you a silly mutt for thinking it would end otherwise. Truth be told, he enjoyed winning at cards as much as anyone. Many a fine evening was spent around the table. Perhaps one day we can remember him together with a game. I'd like that. Ed

June and Family, Bryan, my father, passed along the sad news of Walter's passing. I have fond memories of him from Windsor Park United when I was a child. My husband, Will, and I were fortunate enough to have Walter officiate at our wedding two years ago and to share in the celebration with both of you. I am grateful for that opportunity to reconnect and have thought about you often since then. Walter was a kind man with a quick wit and he will be missed. Our thoughts are with you and the family in this difficult time.
